Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark is one of New Jersey’s largest non-profit social service agencies with programs and facilities serving Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union counties.

We are currently seeking a full time residential assistant for our Canaan House Housing Program, located in Jersey City, NJ. Canaan House is a permanent supportive housing program that improves the self-determination of low-income, homeless individuals and families in Jersey City/Hudson County who are living with HIV/AIDS and are challenged by mental illness and substance abuse problems.

Duties:

  • Establish and maintain helpful relationship with all residents
  • Regularly monitor the facility and the grounds for safety and maintenance issues
  • Provide residents with any supplies routinely distributed
  • Sort and secure donations
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings
  • Answer telephone calls in a professional manner and assist callers with their requests
  • Provide all required program documentation as needed
  • Perform any other duties requested by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • HS Diploma OR GED with 1-2 years of related experience preferred

OR

  • 3 years of experience working with the homeless population in lieu of a HS Diploma or GED

Experience with the homeless or HIV/AIDS population or some formal education in social services preferred.
